200th Anniversary of the Austrian Civil Code
On occasion of the 200th anniversary of the Austrian Civil Code (ABGB) the Liechtenstein Government, the Liechtenstein Bar Association, the Association of Liechtenstein Judges as well as the Chair of Company, Foundation and Trustlaw organized a joint gala on Wednesday, March 28, 2012.
Last year the 200th anniversary of the Austrian Civil Code (ABGB) was celebrated. This anniversary is now also being celebrated in the Principality of Liechtenstein, as large portions of the ABGB legislation were enacted in Liechtenstein just one year later on 18th February 1812. On this festive occasion the speakers focussed on the origins and developments of the ABGB in Liechtenstein - particularly on the current developments in the Law of Succession.
Survey of the history of the ABGB
The welcoming introduction of Prof. Dr. Francesco A. Schurr, head of the Chair of Company, Foundation and Trustlaw at the University of Liechtenstein, was followed by a foreword of the representative of the head of government Dr. Martin Meyer as well as a welcoming speech by the president of the Association of Liechtenstein Judges, lic. iur. Uwe Oehri. With his speech entitled "Deviations from the Austrian reception model" Dr. Mario Frick, president of the Liechtenstein Bar Association, presented a historical survey of the Liechtenstein ABGB. The ceremonial address dealing with current reform issues on the Law of Succession was held by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Bernhard Eccher, Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Innsbruck. At the subsequent panel discussion under the title "The Law of Succession in the ABGB - Past, Present and Future" the speakers together with Mag. iur. Sabine Mohr-Egger of the law office Dr.Dr. Batliner & Gasser, Dr. Robert Schneider of Marxer & Partner Attorneys at Law and Univ.-Doz. Dr. Manfred Umlauft, vice-president of the Tyrolean and Vorarlberg Chamber of Civil Law Notaries, enlarged upon the topic with the participants of the gala. The ensuing aperitif provided an opportunity of interchange.
