Content of this Programme and Sponsors

The European fund industry currently manages over EUR 5 trillion of assets. In their “Green Paper on the Enhancement of the EU Framework for Investment Funds” (2005) the EU expressed the perception that Undertakings for Collective Investment in Transferable Securities (UCITS) legislation could function better. According to the EC, the fund industry does not exploit its full European potential, UCITS III have to be implemented more efficiently, and cost-efficiency generally has to be improved. Of interest is also the situation of new EU-members. They currently work with different market structures, but they are said to face big improvements in market volume over the next years.

Within a 10-day Intensive Programme with participation of students from four European universities, students will study the regulation and instruments of the European fund market. Additionally we will also focus on current problems in innovation and discuss management issues such as accounting for funds, taxation, cost structure and cost transparency, performance evaluation and performance transparency as well as risk management. This will be put into action in the form of student presentations, company visits and meetings with investment fund professionals, input-lectures, and the integration of a portfolio management game.

This Erasmus Intensive Programme was selected for a European Community co-financing. The grant of the Community will contribute about 65% of the organizational, travel and accommodation costs of the project.

What is an Intensive Programme (IP)?

An Intensive Programme (IP) is a short programme of study (10 days to 3 months) which brings together students and staff from different universities with non academic experts, in any field of study. SOCRATES/Erasmus may cover the implementation of an IP during one, two or three successive years (including travel and subsistence costs for participants). Support is given to the coordinating institution within its Institutional Contract (see Erasmus action 1)
