The interest in pursuing a doctoral degree usually develops during graduate level thesis work, but it can also already arise during undergraduate study, in an early commitment to a career in research and advanced teaching, or in executive industry or government positions. But it may also emerge later in one’s career, once informed interests in important lines of enquiry are shaped and have matured. Whatever your motivation, or whatever point in your life you may be at, here is a unique opportunity to focus on personal and professional development in an intensive investigation of the skills and disciplines of well‑structured enquiry and research in architectural theory, sustainable building design or sustainable urban design and planning – spatial development.

There is one essential prerequisite for aiming at a doctoral degree : you should enjoy the pursuit of new questions in the world of academic enquiry in the built environment, and be committed to a path of personal growth and career development.

Doctoral candidates are not only students: they are also active professionals, engaged in research and teaching, or managing community outreach activities. This diversity of activity helps them be prepared for their unfolding careers. The outlook is bright : this path may lead you into a research‑related career in academia or to writing beyond, acting as a stepping stone into an executive setting in government, industry or business.

The contents of the degree programme are oriented around their core programme objectives. However, the presence of three strong economic science and business institutes allows, if required and justified, the combination with the following subject areas :

> Entrepreneurship and Management
> Information and Process Management
> International Financial Services

The entire degree programme lasts at least three years and no more than five years.
