This programme enables students to develop a critical understanding of their personal positions in architecture in the context of history and theory, politics, society and culture. Both, historic and contemporary architectural trends are explored through selected key literature and in-depth theoretical case studies.
At the core of the specification “Architectural Design Theory” is the integration of theoretical positions in architecture into experimental design methodologies. This leads to exploring design through a variety of technologies and techniques ranging from writing to alternative visual modes of representation and digital fabrication. The resulting interdisciplinary discourse will encourage students to challenge and critique standards and preconceptions within the architectural discipline to formulate unique positions of their own.
