Semester abroad
The third semester is usually reserved for continuing the Master’s degree programme at one of our partner universities across Europe, America, Asia, and Africa, for which the main language of instruction is not the same as the students’ first language. Alternatively, students can collaborate in research projects at the University of Liechtenstein in order to acquire particular research competencies in their chosen concentration. In this case, students have to complete a professional experience abroad.
Master's Thesis
A minimum of two semesters have to be completed at the Institute of Architecture and Planning for the completion of the Master's degree programme. The fourth semester is dedicated to work on the Master's thesis which is related to the student’s chosen concentration. The scope and specific topic are determined by the thesis advisor. The Master's thesis needs to be completed at University of Liechtenstein and is reviewed before a public panel of experts.
Research
In addition to its regular studio and course offerings, each concentration pursues also particular research programmes. Master students can collaborate with research staff in the development of scientific- and / or practice-oriented research projects, during a special semester or as a part of a regular semester.
Professional experience
Professional experience is an integral part of the academic programmes at the University of Liechtenstein. The Professional experience module prepares students for the architectural profession. The module combines theoretical knowledge and the development of professional skills, and is held as a seminar that may be taken during the four semesters of the Master's degree programme, or as a continuous seminar during a semester on leave, or as a special semester abroad. The professional experience may be completed in an architectural office, a company, or a public service institution specialized in design, planning, and / or construction. The University of Liechtenstein will seek written agreements from the respective external institutions and / or firms and the students prior to commencement of the internship. Work completed during the professional experience is reviewed, as in the case of design projects, by an expert panel.
