Dr. John Byrne
is Director of the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy and Distinguished Professor of Energy and Climate Policy at the University of Delaware. For his contributions to Working Group III of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change since 1992, he shares the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with the Panel’s authors and review editors. He is chairman of the board of the Foundation for Renewable Energy and Environment (FREE; US) and co-executive director of the Joint Institute for a Sustainable Energy and Environmental Future (South Korea). He co-chairs the Sustainable Energy Utility Oversight Board, and is the architect of this innovative concept for the promotion of energy conservation and distributed renewable energy. His work has been funded by the World Bank, UNDP, UNEP, the W. Alton Jones Foundation, the Asia Foundation, the Blue Moon Fund, the National Science Foundation (US), US Department of Energy, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and the US Environmental Protection Agency, among others.
