Originally focusing on ecological matters alone, the term 'sustainability' has since established itself as a guiding principle in the political landscape of today. Political, economic as well as social responsibility are all constituents of the term sustainability, based on one clear premise: Economic performance, social responsibility and the preservation of natural resources must be safeguarded so as to maintain an environment of opportunity for future generations.
Initiatives such as the Liechtenstein Congress for Sustainable Development and Responsible Investing represent an important foundation for social dialogue. To contribute towards the broader discussion of positive development and change in sustainability research and practice, the government of Liechtenstein supports the international sustainability initiative that is the Liechtenstein Congress 2012.
