Thomas Weber is director of the Management of Technology and Entrepreneurship Institute (MTEI) at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), where he also heads the unit of Operations, Economics and Strategy. Professor Weber’s current research interests include the economics of information and uncertainty, the design of contracts, and strategy. He is an Ingénieur des Arts et Manufactures (Ecole Centrale Paris) and a Diplom-Ingenieur in Electrical Engineering (Technical University Aachen). He holds S.M. degrees in Technology and Policy and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, as well as an M.A. in Operations and Information Management and a Ph.D. in Managerial Science and Applied Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to joining EPFL he was a faculty member in the Department of Management Science and Engineering at Stanford University and a senior consultant with the Boston Consulting Group. At EPFL he teaches various courses on Operations, Economics and Strategy. Professor Weber’s most recent book, “Optimal Control Theory with Applications in Economics,” was published by MIT Press in 2011.
