The International Summer Academy „Sans Souci“ offers language courses and subjects on an academically advanced level.

You can improve your language competence and attend courses to deepen your knowledge of German history and culture within three weeks in August. The focus this year will be on German history, particularly memory/commemoration and the Berlin 20ies or present-day Berlin, and European cultural history.

The courses will take place on Campus Neues Palais from Monday to Friday between 9am and 4pm.

 What is special?

You can obtain up to 9 ECTS-credits by attending the International Summer Academy "Sans Souci" depending on the requirements of your home institution.

The courses offered comprise the workload of a regular semester program. It is an excellent opportunity to enjoy your semester break by experiencing the remarkable flair of Potsdam and its prominent university, enhance your language skills and extend your knowledge for your further studies.

 What is the result?

After your successful participation in the courses and the final exam in your chosen subjects, you will receive a certification with your final mark and the ECTS credits from Potsdam University. When the three weeks are over, you will leave Potsdam with the good feeling to have used your holiday properly by pushing your studies and at the same time broadening your horizon by living in a foreign country.

Language Requirements

The university-level courses are meant for everyone who wants improve his/her German language skills and/or explore various subject areas in more depth. German classes can be taken B and C level. Content courses will also be taught in German. Participants are expected to fulfill the standard requirements, e.g. regular attendance and thorough preparation of assignments (presentations, reports, etc.). Support and counselling are offered by our program manager and staff, all prepared to help you make the best of the program.

·       German as foreign language - 8 lessons each week at  level B and C, 2 lessons each week practical Phonetics, altogether 24 lessons in these three weeks

·       seminars and projects - the topics cover history, literature and politics, each with 6 lessons per week, you have to select two seminars and one project, the total  each week: 28 lessons

You can reach the university, the Park of Sanssouci and the city center of Potsdam or even Berlin from your dormitory  by bus or train in no time.

Lake Constance Summer School 2012 - University of Konstanz – Germany

Welcome Program and Intensive Language Course
For incoming international students who will be studying during the winter semester 2012/2013 at a higher education institution belonging to the institutional network of the International University of Lake Constance, and students intending to study at IBH universities in future, the University of Konstanz, Germany, will be offering an

Intensive German Language course at the levels “Grundstufe” (Basic Level), “Mittelstufe” (Intermediate Level) and “Oberstufe” (Advanced Level)

The language course will be accompanied by a welcome program in the afternoons and on some weekends. The welcome program includes lectures on history, art and culture and politics, as well as guided tours, visits to towns and excursions in the Lake Constance region. In addition, visits to some member institutions of the International Lake Constance University are planned. The Lake Constance Summer School will be organized by the International Office of the University of Konstanz in collaboration with the Language Institute of the University of Konstanz.

For a better planning of the language classes we ask you to take the Goethe Institute Placement Test online (see link on p. 4). Please tick off your personal result on the registration sheet.

Course fee:

€ 300. The course fee covers the costs for the language course and the welcome program, but not the costs for board and lodging.

Board and Lodging:

Accommodation will be in single rooms in the halls of residence of the Student Welfare Service Konstanz and is priced at € 360. Meals can be taken in the dining hall / canteen of the University of Konstanz.

Registration:

The course is limited to 80 participants. It is recommended that you register as soon as possible at the International Office of your IBH host University.

Upon arrival, each participant will receive a complete detailed program.

Intensive language course

Philologically trained and experienced lecturers will teach groups of around 10-15 participants at 6-8 different levels (basic, intermediate and advanced). The language course is not intended for absolute beginners. If you have no German language knowledge, you should get in contact with the organizer before applying.

Contents: listening comprehension, oral skills, writing and reading of (original) texts are combined with grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation exercises. In the basic level courses, a text book is used. The text book costs about 14 Euro. In the intermediate and advanced levels, geographical and cultural topics and study-specific skills (e.g. notation exercises, presentation techniques) will be treated.

Certificates:

Graded or non-graded certificates of participation with 6 ECTS credits

Requirements: regular active participation, homework (about 1 hour per day) and for a graded certificate an additional final test.

Class size: a maximum of 15 participants per class.

Contemporary Baltic capitals: New Business Opportunities

This program is a 3-week joint course on current economic challenges and business opportunities facing the Baltic societies and business enterprises in this region. Three leading Baltic Universities - University of Latvia, University of Tartu and Vilnius University - offer a business oriented program with strong practical emphasis on company visits in Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius.

The aim of the program is to familiarize the students with current challenges and opportunities facing the Baltic/Eastern European economies through company visits and discussion meetings with upper-level managers of local and international businesses. Cultural events of the program will include city tours, visits to renowned museums and landmarks as well as attendance of cultural events. (The detailed description of the program will be available in February 2012.)

The program will be held from 2 July until 21 July 2012. The participants will spend the first week in Estonia (Tallinn), the second week in Latvia (Riga) and the third week in Lithuania (Vilnius). Six company visits will be organized in each country, whereas the companies are chosen from the following sectors: financial, IT, marketing and tourism, marine trade and transportation, construction.

Week I: Estonia.

Location: Tallinn, 02-08 July 2012.

Week II: Latvia

Location: Riga, 08-15 July 2012.

University of Latvia (est.1919) - The University of Latvia, located in the Latvian capital Riga, has preserved its main goal - to be the centre of the Latvian intellectual life by formulating new tasks and goals, over the ninety years of its existence, the University of Latvia has evolved into a leading educational institution with the student body of 22 000 and academic staff of 1400. The development of the University of Latvia is based on rich and extensive historical heritage as well as experience and is an on-going process through the international collaboration and modernization. Today's campus is located in the very heart of the Riga city centre.

Week III: Lithuania.

Location: Vilnius, 15-21 July 2012.

Vilnius University (est.1579) - Vilnius University has been an important part of Vilnius for 432 years, which makes it one of the oldest and most famous higher educational institutions in the region. Its influence reaches into every aspect of the city's life. With its 14 faculties, 22 000 students and academic staff of 1830 it is the largest university in Lithuania and a keeper of cultural and scientific traditions. The University campus is located in the very heart of the Old Town and consists of the 12 buildings that are arranged around the 13 courtyards. Today's Vilnius is an important industrial and cultural centre of Lithuania.

This program awards 6 ECTS credits.

The fee for the whole program is 1690 EUR. This includes tuition, accommodation with breakfast, transfer between three countries, transportation during the program, cost of the cultural and social program and services of the host universities.

I would like to invite your students to our 3-week Summer University ‘An Asian Experience’ from 22.07. to 11.08.2012. Students will visit within this serious academic program the Asian U Campus near Pattaya, the island Ko Samet, the beach resort of Jomtien, the cultural capitol of the North Chiang Mai, and of course, Bangkok in Central Thailand.

 The study program covers 45 contact hours plus 3 hours final examination. The three moduls are

  • Cross-cultural  Awareness,
  • International Business from an Asian Perspective, and
  • Emerging Economies in Asia

Each module is awarded 1 Asian U credit, which may translate into 2 ECTS credits due to the work effort according to the EU ECTS User Guideline. Credits and grades will be testified In a Transcript of Records. Working language is English in all classes; knowledge of Thai language is not required.

Each August Fontys organizes summer school courses in Venlo. Our classes offer you the opportunity to improve your language skills in preparation for your later study course.

The summer/winterschool of Fontys Venlo offers an extensive programme for both new and present students and people who would simply like to increase their educational level with an additional certificate. New Fontys students can earn initial credits before even starting their career as a student, whereas present students can just proceed their careers in the summer. In other words, both groups are offered an opportunity to gain a head-start for the next semesters. There will be many opportunities for learning on the one hand, but also excellent opportunities for mingling with other students and gaining new insights on the other hand.

Summer University is a very popular idea among students from all over the world.

Summer University Warsaw (SUW) is a 2-week-long course on economics and management carried out by Warsaw School of Economics (SGH). The program is organized during summer holidays, usually in July, in Warsaw, Poland. It is addressed to foreign students. SUW is a chance for you to broaden your economic knowledge as well as to meet new cultures and people from different countries.

Fee
Summer University Warsaw fee should be paid after candidate’s acceptance but before their arrival. In 2012 edition, the fee comes to 599 euro. It covers students' meals, dormitory, lectures, student packet etc. Remember! It does not cover insurance (students have to buy one on their own) and it does not cover students' arrival and departure (plane tickets, train tickets etc.).


Accomodation
You will stay in Sabinki dormitory, our biggest student’s hostel situated in the nearby of SGH buildings in the immediate downtown of Warsaw. Each room is renovated and fully equipped (they have even fire alarm, so we don’t recommend you to smoke inside :P). The architects took care even of your health, because you’ll have to cover a few meters distance in order to get to the bathroom or kitchen. On every square meter of Sabinki you have access to WLAN so there won’t be any problem to send greetings to your family and friends. Sabinki have 5 levels and at each one there is a different common room at your disposal, where you can make parties, play billiard, watch TV or study. In the same building you can buy necessary stuff, do the washing or eat dinner in canteen.

Afterwards time with friends in nice atmosphere? No big problem! You simply go out from Sabinki, turn right, and walk 30 meters to the student’s pub Equilibrium.

III ENoLL Summer School - Helsinki Metropolitan Region 2012

We welcome your organization staff to the III ENoLL Summer School in August 2012 in Helsinki and Espoo, Finland.
This Summer school comes after the two successful Summer School editions, first in Paris 2010 and the second in Barcelona 2011. It is sponsored by the European Network of Living Labs (ENoLL) and will be organised by Laurea Living Labs Network with a close collaboration with ENoLL, Aalto University, CKIR and Forum Virium Helsinki.

 The 2012 Summer School will offer four days full of interesting and inspiring programme starting with the Pre-summer School workshop; and later continuing with the main Summer School days. The Summer School will be comprised of  several workshops, presentations and excursions with the aim of giving participants a wider insight about models, theories and technologies related to Living Labs. The event will also offer the opportunity to gain hands-on experience from the leading experts on the subject and to network with other Living Lab enthusiasts.

August 21st – 23rd 2012 Main summer school programme

On Monday the 20th August, 2012 we welcome all participants of the summer school to attend a pre-summer school research day. This day is designed for people who would like to present their papers on Living Labs, User Driven Innovation and other related research topics. There is no additional fee for the pre summer school participation.

Submission of abstracts for the pre-summer school research day should be made by June 15th 2012 through the  summer school online registration in the Summer School web pages.

Venues and Addresses
On the 20th, 22nd and 23rd, the Summer School will be held at Laurea Living Labs Network in Espoo city. Address: Vanha maantie 9, 02650, Leppävaara, Espoo, Finland

On the 21st of August the opening ceremony and first programme will take place at the Aalto University, School of Economics in Helsinki city. Address: Runeberginkatu 14 – 16 00076 Helsinki, Finland

Registration and participations fees
The registration for the III ENoLL Summer School is now open. Please find further information on registration on the Summer School website. The participants can register for the event until 15th August, 2012.

Early-bird registration by 15th of June: 350 Euros
Registration by 15th of August: 375 Euros
