Institute of Architecture and Planning
The study programmes at the University of Liechtenstein are structured according to the multi-tier Bachelor’s – Master’s – PhD system recognized worldwide. The Bachelor’s programme leads to a first professional qualification obtained from a university, whereas the Master’s programme provides in-depth study and specialization.  A doctorate degree can be earned in the third stage of a degree programme.

The university aspires to develop the personality, creativity and expressiveness of its students.  To this end, students should be taught practical skills while boosting their critical rationality and rousing their enthusiasm for a career in architecture. 

The following focus areas are currently offered as part of the Master’s degree programme in Architecture

> Architectural Design Theory
> Sustainable Design
> Sustainable Urban Design

The Bachelor’s degree programme is offered by the Institute of Architecture and Planning. Graduate programmes are offered by the Graduate School in cooperation with the institute.

Timber-hybrid tower block: would-be architects at the University of Liechtenstein develop innovative concepts
From September 2011, an eight-storey LifeCycle Tower (LCT) will be erected in Dornbirn, Austria. What is special about LCT One? The hybrid tower block consists mostly of wood. The project architect is Hermann Kaufmann; the client is a subsidiary of a Vorarlberg construction company. The flexibility of the LCT system is illustrated in sketches by architecture students at the University of Liechtenstein, supervised by Professor Dietrich Schwarz. They have come up with some highly creative solutions for the living and working spaces of the future.

Lecture of Professor Peter Droege at the 2010 MFI Kelvin in Bregenz
Professor Peter Droege delivered on 23 October 2010 in Bregenz the 2010 MFI Kelvin Lecture, organised by the UK based Institution of Enginnering and Technology (IET) and the Michael Faraday Institution, Munich, lecturing on Sustainable Development and Responsible Investing with a focus on the future of cities. The MFI Kelvin Lecture is sponsored by the MFI Foundation and named after Scottish mathematician and physicist, Lord William Thomson Kelvin (1824-1907). Prof Droege received an honorary membership with the IET. He recently also became a Life Member of the Beijing headquartered International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE).

The article “The mediated city” explores the correlation between techniques used to represent the imagined city and the experience of the city itself, specifically focussing on the transformation of the urban panorama from an art form to an entertaining marketing tool at World Exhibitions in the late 19th Century.
