The travelling exhibition of the 2012 Prix Lignum, the renowned Swiss prize for wooden constructions, will be presenting its works at the University of Liechtenstein during a three-week period. The exhibition includes contributions by the three prize-winning architects Urs Meister, Dietrich Schwarz and Conradin Clavuot.
The travelling exhibition of the 2012 Prix Lignum, the renowned Swiss prize for wooden constructions, will be presenting its works at the University of Liechtenstein during a three-week period. The exhibition includes contributions by the three prize-winning architects Urs Meister, Dietrich Schwarz and Conradin Clavuot.
The Prix Lignum is awarded for future-oriented wooden constructions of an especially high quality which may take the form of buildings, interior designs, furniture or artistic works. From bridge to chair, any kind of object was eligible for nomination for the 2012 Prix Lignum. The only prerequisite: the construction had to be realized between January 2007 and March 2012 and be based in Switzerland. The 2012 Prix Lignum travelling exhibition in the foyer of the University of Liechtenstein will be open to visitors from 12 December 2012 to 6 January 2013, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The vernissage will be held on Wednesday, 12 December 2012, at 6.30 p.m.
Prize-winning projects by lecturers from the University of Liechtenstein
In 2012, at the prestigious Prix Lignum award ceremony, three lecturers from the University of Liechtenstein were awarded for their drafts.
For his “Im Langacher” housing development in Greifensee, Zurich, Professor Dietrich Schwarz was ranked second in the “Northern region” category, and he received special recognition for his “Silence” housing development in St. Erhard in the “Central region” category.
Professor Conradin Clavuot was awarded special recognition in the “Eastern region” category for his model of the Merz bakery in Chur, and received the Graubünden Holz “Holzhandwerk 2012” special award.
In the “Northern region” category, Professor Urs Meister was awarded special recognition for his project house in Küsnacht.
The pope of bamboo architecture
Before the vernissage, a public lecture will be held by the Colombian architect Simón Vélez from 5.00 p.m. to approximately 6.30 p.m., as part of the series entitled “Architecture and planning in Latin America”. The lecture series in the 2012/2013 winter semester, initiated by Professor Hansjörg Hilti, explores architecture and planning in the slums of Latin America. Simón Vélez, also known as “The pope of bamboo architecture”, has been using bamboo as a construction material since the 1980s. For Expo 2000, he designed the ZERI (Zero Emissions Research and Initiatives) pavilion, which measured 40 metres in diameter and was 17 metres high. In 2010, he also worked on the Indian pavilion at the Expo in Shanghai.
