Introduction Week: carnival in Triesenberg

The second day of the Introduction Week was a real treat for new students joining for the 2013 summer semester. The traditional Triesenberg carnival parade on 12 February 2013 was as spectacular as ever despite the miserable weather.

The second day of the Introduction Week was a real treat for new students joining for the 2013 summer semester. The traditional Triesenberg carnival parade on 12 February 2013 was as spectacular as ever despite the miserable weather.

And for many of the students who had travelled to Liechtenstein from all over the world, the “Bärgar Narra” were an amazing new experience – and even a little bit frightening.

Sharlin, a visiting student from Bangladesh, only just escaped with a fright.

Many of the visiting students who have come to Vaduz as part of the Erasmus programme saw the carnival floats and the costumes, which ranged from the cute to the grotesque, for the first time as they paraded through Triesenberg. There were witches and devils, but also hares and fools of all shapes and sizes.

Anna Lilli from Hungary caught all the action and plenty of snow and confetti, both on camera and on her hood.

Gugga music outdoors and indoors
As the lively rhythms on this Shrove Tuesday failed to cheer up the weather, the bands of fools moved indoors to spread the cheer further.

“Classical music” in the carnival season – Gugga music.
Some of the exchange students were surprised by the original cover versions of modern songs on brass instruments.

It was easier to watch and listen to the “Wildmandli” Gugga music inside in the warmth with a drink in hand, and the visiting students could warm up a little before heading outside again to the Sücka mountain inn to see out the carnival with an exciting toboggan ride.

Action-packed finale
Subsequent to the Bärgar carnival, students enjoyed a high-speed winter toboggan ride from the Sücka mountain inn.
