Cloud computing for a competitive edge

First SME Cloud Day at the University of Liechtenstein: On 31 May 2012, the Institute of Information Systems, together with ByteRaider Informatik Est., will hold the first SME Cloud Day at the University of Liechtenstein for all interested parties in the region.


The event will focus on the competitive advantages to be gained through cloud computing. Following a general introduction to the topic by Professor Jan vom Brocke, Head of the Institute of Information Systems at the University of Liechtenstein, Markus Zollinger of IBM Switzerland will talk about exploiting business potential in the cloud. Patrick Widmer, owner of ByteRaider Informatik Est., will then go on to provide examples of cloud computing in practice in his presentation “Using the cloud ”. A subsequent panel discussion will then also be joined by Alfred Fehr, Managing Director of MITARO Business Solutions AG and Chairman of the IT section of the Liechtenstein Chamber of Commerce, as well as Fabrice Wieser, IT Manager at Jetion Solar Europe. The event will be held in the University of Liechtenstein’s auditorium from 5.15 p.m. to 7.00 p.m., and will be followed by a drinks reception, which visitors are invited to attend. Markus Zollinger, Director of Cloud Computing Switzerland & Austria and internationally experienced cloud strategist, pays a visit to Liechtenstein.

Cloud strategist for Switzerland and Austria
Since the 1990s, Markus Zollinger has held various senior management positions at leading international ICT companies, and since 2000 he has been working for IBM Switzerland, where from 2004 onwards he was responsible for the set-up and management of the IT Strategy & Architecture Consulting Services division. In spring 2010, he was tasked with implementing the IBM Corporate Cloud Strategy in Switzerland and Austria, an assignment that involves building up IBM’s market position in cloud computing and coordinating all cross-divisional cloud activities in the areas of market development and professional services. His area of responsibility includes direct and indirect leadership of a cloud organization that extends beyond both national and divisional boundaries. Markus Zollinger reports to the General Manager of the Switzerland/Austria market region, and is a member of its Executive Staff. He has an Executive MBA from the University of St. Gallen.
