Sustainability in all its forms is at the centre of the International Liechtenstein Congress for Sustainable Development and Responsible Investing: In their speeches and discussions, international experts from the areas of finance, real estate, construction, design, business  and IT be focusing on new research insights from 2 to 4 May 2012.

International experts discuss matters at the three-day LISDAR Congress
“We need to be able to rely on fair framework conditions. The idea of sustainability is gaining more and more approval in the eyes of the public. The term is slowly finding its way into society. That’s good, but it’s not enough. Nowadays, with turnaround measures in energy being rapidly implemented, for example, we need to be able to reliably follow long-term objectives. That is why we explicitly welcome every chance for sustainability initiatives,” emphasizes Prime Minister Klaus Tschütscher in the run-up to the major international event, which is being held at the University of Liechtenstein for the third time.

Illustrating ways to achieve sustainable development
With the congress on sustainability, the University of Liechtenstein and the Principality of Liechtenstein’s government aim to illustrate varied ways to achieve sustainable development, and to motivate the business industries and each individual. At the 2012 LISDAR Congress, international experts and representatives will analyse and discuss who is able to significantly influence the transformation towards sustainability, how much of an influence consumption, capital, the media, education and values have had so far, and which new focus areas are to be determined for society, business and politics. Visitors can discuss new ideas for sustainability, and actively engage in exchanges through interesting cross-industry examples. Together, current questions regarding sustainability will be examined and future-oriented measures discussed.

The role of foundations, architecture and responsible business models
The first day will focus on the role of foundations in the context of the institutional financial system, and on examining responsible investing possibilities. The second day will address the topic of “Renewable city: architecture, property and infrastructure”, while responsible information systems will be presented on the third day. “Personally, I am hoping for a broad discussion about positive changes and developments in the area of sustainability, without any hollow-ringing catchphrases. The LISDAR event provides us with a great opportunity to establish internal and external links in relation to the important themes of the University of Liechtenstein,” states Prime Minister Klaus Tschütscher.

Vaduz welcomes experts from around the world
During the three-day congress at the university, international experts will have the opportunity to exchange ideas from their specialist areas, but also across disciplines, in a personal atmosphere. Professor Peter Droege from the Institute of Architecture and Planning at the University of Liechtenstein is the initiator and in charge of the event. For him, what the event is all about was adequately expressed when a speaker at the last congress stated that the LISDAR “was a real quantum leap, where the principle of mutual enrichment is highly valued”. Lord Anthony Giddes from the London School of Economics, and Christa Velasquez, Visiting Fellow, Initiative for Responsible Investment  at the Hauser Center for Nonprofit Organizations, Harvard University, are among the internationally renowned experts visiting Liechtenstein.

The congress is supported by a large number of charitable and private organizations, which are partly based in the principality itself or have come to know the innovative location of Liechtenstein through the congress.
