Abstract
Information technology (IT) capabilities are increasing at an impressive rate and resulting intelligent systems are ever present in today's world. However, users' cognitive abilities are not developing at the same pace. To close the gap between humans and intelligent systems, it is becoming increasingly important to create and expand design knowledge for the class of interactive intelligent systems.
In this talk, I motivate the need for research on user assistance in interactive intelligent systems and suggest a conceptualization that distinguishes supporting, cooperating, and informing user assistance. In addition, I will present two research projects on designing user assistance based on this conceptualization. First, in the context of supporting user assistance, I will present a research project on the design of process guidance systems supporting users with process knowledge in order to increase their process execution performance. Second, in the context of cooperating user assistance, I will present initial results of a study investigating the role of social cues in human-chatbot interaction.

Short bio
Stefan Morana is postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Information Systems and Marketing (IISM) and the Karlsruhe Service Research Institute (KSRI) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). He is co-heading the research cluster "Digital Experience and Participation" and the coordinator of the "Digital Experience Network". Stefan received a B.Sc. and M.Sc. degree in Computer Science from the University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt and the University of Wisconsin as well as a Ph.D. in Information Systems from the University of Mannheim in 2015. His research focuses on the design of interactive intelligent systems and methodological aspects of design science research. Research by Stefan is published in the journals DSS, BISE, and JITTA as well as in the leading IS conferences.

The participation is free of charge.
