On 5 October 2011, the New York Arbitration Convention came into force in Liechtenstein. This now makes it possible for arbitral awards made by foreign arbitration tribunals to be recognised and enforced in Liechtenstein. The New York Convention is an instrument makes Liechtenstein more attractive as a location for international arbitration proceedings, because Liechtenstein arbitral awards are now also enforceable practically anywhere in the world. In addition to providing an introduction to the convention, the extent to which Liechtenstein's accession will cause friction in the realm of asset protection and the question as to whether the desired outcome of making Liechtenstein more attractive as a location for arbitration is realistic, will be examined in the course of this lecture.
