Content

The hot topic of compliance has now become firmly established in the Rhine Valley region. Due to Liechtenstein's special geographic location, cross-border legal and business relations form an integral part of everyday practice. For this reason, the focal point of the Compliance Day 2015 is cross-border compliance. In this regard, there are numerous international, European law and national regulations, adding to the steadily increasing requirements made of compliance officers. In order to master this flood of regulations, efforts have been made towards developing automation solutions which will enable the organisation and structuring of the many responsibilities of compliance officers to be improved. The first presentation of the second session of this event thus addresses the challenges which arise in the automation of compliance requirements. Another key issue - and subject of another lecture at this conference - concerns data protection law. At European level, work is currently in progress on preparing the data protection regulation, aimed at ensuring uniform application of data protection rules within the EU.

Unlike the traditional legal and business issues, ethical and psychological aspects have until now only been partially addressed in discussions concerning the problems associated with the activity of compliance officers. However, ethics and psychology constitute essential elements of the compliance structure. Therefore, the Compliance Day 2015 places an emphasis on these issues and examines these in detail in connection with company and financial market law.

In the afternoon session of the Compliance Day 2015, compliance in cross-border transactions will first be examined from the perspective of the supervisory authority. Subsequently, the topic of holistic KYC in connection with cross-border compliance with its practical aspects and ideas for efficiency will be discussed. In the presentation thereafter, the speaker will discuss the opportunities and risks of KYC and cross-border compliance for national and international tax law. The conference will be rounded off with two lectures concerning liability, in which the speakers will deal in detail with the liability of associations on the one hand and the prevention or limitation of liability in the field of cross-border compliance on the other.

The subsequent panel discussion, chaired by Dr Urs Philipp Roth-Cuony, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Financial Market Authority (FMA), Vaduz, offers participants the opportunity to raise specific questions to deepen their knowledge of the exciting topic of compliance.
