Abstract
I describe our experiments with the design of an informational artifact and a work practice to support deliberation and decisions about cancer treatment for patients at a large community hospital in Midwestern US. The efforts required bringing together prior work on decision making, clinical decision support and knowledge management practices. We conducted the research over a period of three years, following an action design research approach. The presentation will describe the research process, and the outcomes as ongoing reconceptualization of the artifact and the evolving design principles for the solution class exemplified by the artifact.

Research conducted by C. Gaudioso, H. Jain and S. Purao
