The Liechtenstein legal system is currently subject to major change for many reasons. Complete reforms and extensive amendments of established legislation are already almost commonplace. As part of our "Lunch & Learn" series, we offer you an opportunity to obtain insights into the effects of legal reforms and gain the appropriate tools in order to implement quickly and correctly the new findings into your everyday business life - all in the shortest possible time, during your lunch break.
The new law on Family Matters entered into force on 1st January 2015. Time to draw a first summary and to take a closer look at the relevant case law of the Supreme Court.
A changing lifestyle of parents often leads to new legal challenges. Despite a still constant divorce rate, unmarried couples are facing more often separation situations. This raises the question of how cohabitation and marriage can be legally dissociated and which side-effects are to be observed in case of a separation/divorce. Should a three-year separation be actually respected? From when on is it unreasonable to keep a marriage? What distinguishes a marital from a postmarital alimony? When is an alimony due and what could lead to a termination of this obligation? During this "Lunch and Learn" these and similar questions will be examined in more detail. This event will also be an opportunity to show the impacts of joint custody on child support. Furthermore, issues like the recognition of foreign marriage and divorce judgments will be examined in more detail.
The lawyer Dr. Dominik Schatzmann has been practicing for years in the area of family law at the Princely Court; he was involved in many Supreme Court judgments relating to parental custody law, alimony law and divorce law.
