Towards the end of the year, yet another generation of schoolchildren is faced with the question of their professional future. The University of Liechtenstein’s ‘Student for a day’ scheme gives them an opportunity of finding their bearings and learning about BA courses in Architecture or Business Administration – all up close and personal, and right on the campus.

This series of events is aimed at prospective students who are interested in the subjects of Architecture or Business Administration and who would like to have a taste of university life at close quarters in order to help them make their decision. They can attend lectures and workshops in their chosen subject, as well as being given a  campus tour.

Business Administration ‘student for a day’

The Business Administration ‘students for a day’ are given an idea of the structure of the course, as well as being told about what makes university study different from schoolwork. This is backed up by attendance at a subject-specific lecture, in which the visitors sit in the auditorium alongside active students of the university. They also work on a business administration case study. In this way they can experience two crucial teaching formats which they will meet at university. Finally they are given sufficient time for putting questions to both teachers and students, and the visit concludes with a tour of the campus.

Architecture ‘student for a day’

Prospective Architecture students have a chance of experiencing the fundamentals of design and structural planning by working on a project of their own. A short lecture on ‘What is architecture?’ tells them about the most important aspects of architecture and the study of architecture. Scale, structure and programme are defined with the help of plans and cross-sections, and immediately put to the test on a three-dimensional model. Also part of the taster day – sampling the exciting atmosphere of an architectural design studio, and the chance of having a direct encounter with students and teachers.
