Curricula

Bachelor's degree programme in Architecture (01.09.2008)

Description

Building construction and building materials

  • Combining individual building components to generate complex building systems
  • Integrating ecological and economic aspects into building construction
  • Demonstrating constructive developments and future prospects

Lecture Goals

Based on the skills acquired in the modules Building Technology I, II and III and in line with the objectives of the module Building Technology IV the goal of this course is to expand further on the principles of building construction and building materials.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course each student should have the ability to demonstrate and/or work with:

  • understanding of plaster as complex, contemporary building material and are to implement creative.
  • the ability to understand reinforced concrete structures in deapth and know concrete production from manufacture excursion.
  • the ability to investigate visionary steel structures.
  • know glas in its application as well as in its complex materiality.
  • basic knowledge about building engineering and the intersecting point of several building components, as well as the ability to apply these skills in the context of complex design projects.
  • the ability to represent the structure and individual layers of the building at a scale of 1:20.
  • the ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative and objectivity when carrying out projects.
  • the ability to outline ideas, information and individual projects in a clear and precise manner visually, in oral or written form.
  • the ability to communicate complex information with varying objectives to various target groups.
  • the skills to critically evaluate statements regarding subject specific problems.

Lectures Method

Lecture followed by practical examples.
Construction site visits and building inspections.

Admission Requirements

The modules of the Bachelor's program in architecture are structured consecutively (they build on each other).

  • Successful completion of the module Building Technology I prior to enrolment.
  • It is recommended to take the modules Building Technology II and III prior to enrolling this course.

Literature

Course script, codes (Normenwerke SIA)

Exam Modalities

Written examination of the learning outcomes of the course

Assessment

The course has to be passed with a sufficient grade (minimum grade of 4.0).
The module grade will be determined from the weighted average of the individual course grades:

Building Construction 4 33%
Structural Design 4 33%
Building Technology 2 33%

Comments

Die Lehrveranstaltung muss mit einer genügenden Note bestanden werden (Mindestnote 4.0).
