Professor Peter Staub moves from Liechtenstein to Bern

Prof. Peter Staub, Head of the Institute of Architecture and Planning at the University of Liechtenstein, will move to the Berne University of Applied Sciences as Director of the Department of Architecture, Wood and Construction on 1 February 2021 and become a member of the University of Applied Sciences' Executive Board.

Peter Staub, who trained as an architect and urban planner in Mendrisio and London, has been working at the University of Liechtenstein for 12 years. He was a member of the Rectorate between 2016 and 2019, serving as Rector ad interim from October 2018 to the end of September 2019.

First RIBA accreditation worldwide
Under the direction of Peter Staub, the Institute of Architecture and Planning is the first and only institution worldwide to be accredited by RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) for all programme levels in teaching. Staub has also curated numerous exhibitions, including Liechtenstein's first appearance at the Biennale in Venice.

"Sometimes doors open unexpectedly, and I have decided to embark on this new adventure," says Staub, outlining his situation. "The University of Liechtenstein is in an excellent position today, especially the Institute of Architecture and Planning, so that I can leave the responsibility to other motivated employees with a clear conscience", he continues.

Rector Ulrike Baumöl regrets the decision of Peter Staub, both personally and professionally, to leave the university, but shows understanding: "After many successful years of shaping and moving in Liechtenstein, it is understandable that this opportunity should be seized. In addition, an attractive project awaits him with the construction of the new campus buildings in Bern and Biel," she adds.

"The entire University of Liechtenstein is deeply indebted to Peter Staub. He has excellently positioned the topics of architecture and planning in the region and, as Rector ad interim, has guided the organization through a critical phase with calm and clarity", Klaus Tschütscher, President of the University Council, explains. "The call from Bern is also a compliment to the University of Liechtenstein."

To ensure an orderly transition, Peter Staub is available to the University of Liechtenstein on a part-time basis until the end of 2021.
