  • 3D comprehension (from 2D to 3D)
  • 3D modeling strategies
  • Introduction to the program Rhinoceros 5.0
  • Modeling of curves, surfaces and volumes
  • Modification of objects
  • Processing of vector graphics using Adobe Creative Suite CS5 products
  • Import/export of data sets
  • Digitalization of data sets
  • Data handling
  • Introduction to computer-assisted model production (Lasercut models)

Lecture Goals

Students acquire knowledge about strategies for creating two and three dimensional drawings and models.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course each student should

  • be capable of producing two and three dimensional drawings and models (curves, surfaces and volumes) using Rhinoceros 5.0.
  • be able to process and manipulate the generated vector graphics using Adobe Creative Suite products.
  • possess an understanding of the use of various strategies within the realm of architectural design.
  • also acquire basic knowledge about working with analog and digital model building techniques, as well as about the possibilities for implementing both types.

Lectures Method

  • Projector-aided, classroom-style teaching with use of personal CAD workstation and assistance from the course instructor.

  • Basic computer skills are recommended

Exam Modalities

  • Seminar projects > submitted regularly throughout the semester (digital files and models)
  • Project work > submitted at the end of the course (in printed format and PDF)

Assessment

Courses must be passed with a satisfactory grade (lowest passing grade is 4.0).

The grade for the module is based upon the seminar projects (submitted regularly throughout the semester) and the portfolio (submitted at the end of the course). The standard criteria are as follows:

  • Completeness and complexity of the seminar projects / project.
  • Implementation of concepts and strategies
  • work and learning progress
  • Overall impression of the seminar projects / project.
