Now in January it will be the turn    of the practical experts, as Liechtenstein welcomes Wolfgang Vogelsänger and Margret Rasfeld, head teachers of two highly distinguished German schools.

For Campus Talks 3 and 4, the University of Liechtenstein has invited two highly regarded teachers whose schools have won accolades as being among the best in Germany. The public is welcome to take part in the discussion following the lecture, and to join in the light refreshments at the end for an opportunity of informally meeting the experienced practitioners, both of whom act as development advisors to various primary and middle schools and other educational institutes in Vorarlberg and Liechtenstein.

Campus Talk 3: a school notable for teamwork

Guest speaker at the third Campus Talk on Wednesday, 21 January 2015 will be Wolfgang Vogelsänger, who has been teaching for 42 years in various kinds of school. For the last 11 years the distinguished educationalist has been head teacher of the Georg Christoph Lichtenberg Comprehensive School in Göttingen, which was chosen as School of the Year in 2011, as well as receiving the German School Prize of the Robert Bosch Foundation. His approach is consistently based on the principles of responsibility and participation and on the structures for furthering these – and it could be seen as a model for corporate organisations as well. In his lecture ‘The team school – trust, decision and responsibility’, Mr Vogelsänger will explain his philosophy of effective learning, which will also be found applicable to other schools.

Campus Talk 4: a curriculum based on respect

On 28 January Margret Rasfeld will be visiting the Vaduz Campus. She is head teacher of the Evangelische Schule Berlin Zentrum [Berlin City Centre Evangelical School], and co-founder, with brain researcher Gerald Hüther, of the ‘Schule im Aufbruch’ [‘New departures in schooling’] initiative. In her lecture on ‘The secret curriculum based on respect – relationships, participation and responsibility’ she will explain how her school fosters a learning culture aimed at the development of potential. Learning by living, testing oneself against challenges, experiencing that one can make a difference and seeing meaning in things – all these create a basis for enabling students to act with responsibility in times of growing uncertainty, encouraging them to show independent initiative, responsibility and creative imagination.

Workshop: contributing to the future of education

When booking for the talk, the general public are invited to submit their own questions in advance. These will then be put forward by Claudia Schanza acting as moderator. In this way the University of Liechtenstein hopes to develop an active dialogue with the public about topical and socially relevant themes. In view of the numerous enquiries, both speakers will also be offering an in-depth workshop after the light refreshments, where particular concerns and questions can be aired in a more intimate group. Bookings can be made online at www.uni.li/campusgespraeche.

There is no charge for admission, and school classes are welcome. The series receives support from the Peter Marxer Lecture Foundation and Leone Ming Visible Marketing.
