On Friday, 27 September 2013, two doctoral degrees were awarded as part of the 2013 graduation ceremony at the University of Liechtenstein. Graduates from Austria, Germany and Switzerland were also presented with awards for their extraordinary achievements. Prime Minister Adrian Hasler attended the ceremony.

“I warmly congratulate all graduates and hope that their success will open up new career prospects for them. It is important that they stay curious and never lose sight of their goals,” emphasized Prime Minister Adrian Hasler at the University of Liechtenstein.

Among the successful graduates from the University of Liechtenstein were 25 students from Liechtenstein.

Extraordinary achievements

Rector Klaus Näscher and the Chair of the Senate, Professor Peter Droege, presented the graduates with their academic degrees in Architecture and Business Economics. For the fourth time at the University of Liechtenstein, two students were presented with their doctoral degrees in Business Economics: this year it was Stefan Wilhelm and Thomas Götzen, who both specialized in Entrepreneurship and Management.

After the congratulatory speech by Dr. Mario F. Broggi, University Councillor at the University of Liechtenstein, seven graduates were awarded prizes by Liechtenstein and Swiss companies and associations for their extraordinary achievements.

The award for best graduate in the Bachelor’s degree programme in Architecture – sponsored by Swiss Engineering STV, the Swiss Association of Engineers and Architects – was presented to David Dudler from Buchs, Switzerland, in recognition of his achievement of a grade of 4.5 for his Bachelor’s thesis and an overall grade average of 5.3.

Archimedes – the Association of Swiss University Graduates – and the Liechtenstein Association of Engineers and Architects presented their award for the best student in the Master’s degree programme in Architecture to Christina Schlüter from Dornbirn, Austria, who achieved a grade of 5.5 for her Master’s thesis and as an overall grade average.

Prizes for graduates in Business Economics

The “Promoting young technological talent” foundation, an offshoot of Hilti AG in Schaan, awarded prizes for the most innovative Bachelor’s and Master’s theses in Business Economics. In the Bachelor’s degree programme, the two graduates Marco Düngler from Schruns, Austria, and Johannes Josef Maurer from Wolfurt, Austria, achieved the same grade of 5.8. In the Master’s degree programme in Entrepreneurship, Felix Schüssler from Feldkirch, Austria, received an award for his grade of 5.8.

The Liechtenstein Bankers Association (LBV) awarded prizes for the best average in all modules from the Bachelor’s degree programme in Business Administration with the focus area Financial Services. The best grade average (5.4) was achieved by Gabriel Schäfer from Bregenz, Austria. Thomas Wachter from Aulendorf, Germany, received an award for the best grade average (5.5) in all modules from the Master’s degree programme in Banking and Financial Management, which was also presented by the LBV.

Rector Klaus Näscher is delighted with the “extraordinary quality of the graduates, which in many cases will now benefit the economy of Liechtenstein and the surrounding region.”
