Beschreibung

Candidates of the MSc in Banking and Financial Management program should be aware of the basic topics in the fields of stock and bond valuation, risk and return connection and categories of options.

The Pre-course in Finance is a self-study course followed by an online assessment for those students, that did not cover this topic during their Bachelor programme.

The selected chapters out of the following book cover these topics:

Brealey, R., Myers, S., and Allen, F. (2008): Principles of Corporate Finance, 9th edition, McGraw Hill, Boston

Chapter 5 The Value of Common Stocks
Chapter 8 Introduction to Risk, Return, and the Opportunity Cost of Capital
Chapter 9 Risk and Return
Chapter 10 Capital Budgeting and Risk
Chapter 21 Understanding Options
Chapter 24 Credit Risk and the Value of Corporate Debt
Chapter 25 The Many Different Kinds of Debt

This exam is compulsory for all candidates, who received the information as part of their acceptance letter and who have been registered for this self-study course.

However, all study beginners should be encouraged to read and familiarize themselves with the mentioned topics in the listed chapters of this book: Brealey, R., Myers, S., and Allen, F. (2008): Principles of Corporate Finance, 9th edition, McGraw Hill, Boston

(Newer versions of this book are available, but the topics covered are the same.)

Prüfungsmodalitäten

The online assessment takes place in form of a take-home exam before the start of the first semester on Thursday, 28th August, from 8.00 - 9.00am.

Candidates will have 60 minutes to answer all question of the exam. Students assure to have completed the exam on their own without any help by third parties.

The exam will be sent to the registered course participants via Email at the above date at 8am and has to be returned by 9.10am the same day. Therefore, students have 10 minutes buffer for receiving and returning the Email. Students are recommended to put their own Email address in CC as proof in case something should go wrong with the delivery.
