This year, the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg is celebrating the grand opening programme of IBA Hamburg, the international building exhibition, with over 2,000 events and guided tours of Wilhelmsburg, Europe’s largest river island.

Through his research, Professor Peter Droege has played a central and leading role in the development and outcome of this billion-euro project since preparations for IBA began back in 2007. At the StadtNeuBauen (RebuildingTheCity) congress held recently and dedicated to the themes Smart City – Open City – Civic City – Growing City, he outlined important trends for the post-IBA era in a thoroughly researched and richly imaginative address.

Here in Liechtenstein and in the Alpine Rhine Valley, the Renewable Liechtenstein and BAER projects, which he oversees, have already generated great interest. The brand new, FFF-funded follow-up project IBAER, which focuses on the opportunities for an international building exhibition for the Lake Constance-Alpine Rhine region, is now at the preparation stage and will be officially launched at the University of Liechtenstein on 1 October 2013. A dozen important local, regional and international partners will be involved in the project.
