Beschreibung

Signage can be described as a discipline at the interface between architecture, design and communication. But creating a new signage concept for the university campus is even more than that. It is the possibility to add an additional layer to space. This layer guides people and is able to transfer a marketing and communication strategy, a corporate design and identity of a company - or in our specific case the university - into something spatial and graspable. It should therefore be an important part of architecture, especially for commercial, cultural or public buildings and projects on an urban scale but in reality it is very often neglected and underestimated in planning processes as well as in marketing strategies.
While signage can more be seen as signs and marks in space in a 2 dimensional, graphical way, another aspect of this topic is of course the current discussion and research on indoor navigation systems as well as the huge theme of the internet of things and augmented reality.
The program starts with input lectures, walking the campus and discussions. Students will then do analysis and research on different topics and with different methods. Out of this research they will develop individual concepts for a new guiding and orientation system for the University. The final presentation is a competition in wich a jury will reward a winning project.
The idea for this program comes out of an actual need for a better guiding system at the University of Liechtenstein.
Students therefore have the chance to work with a real client. After the semester the university will develop their new signage system for the whole campus out of students basic research and work of this program.

color design); marketing, communication, "corporate architecture"; organization, cooperation; data sourcing,
analysis, statistics
  • analyzing skills:
  • data survey: questioning and observing users and their needs (visitor flows); theoretical research (special field of
signage); contextual research (existing corporate identity and marketing strategies of the university); experimental
methods
  • data evaluation: statistics, conclusion, visualization
  • conceptualization: out of analysis find a logical solution for the given task and problem
  • visualization and presentation: present the concept readable and comprehensibly to external people as part of a
given format
