Ambassador Hakim will speak about Indonesia in general and its cultural, religious, historical, economic and political background, as well as its central role in ASEAN (Association of the South East Asian Nations).

Indonesia is an archipelagic and equatorial country located in South East Asia, with total territorial area of 7.9 Million km2 (3 time zones) and 54,716 km of coastline. With 255 million population, Indonesia is the world's 4th largest population and the third largest democracy in the world.

Indonesia is a place where cultures from more than 17.000 Islands coexists and live in harmony. A place where 7,000 dialects and languages can be united by single language. Where differences are embraced and enriched. Indonesia officially admits 6 religion: Islam, Catholic, Protestant, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Confucianism. A place where diversity of cultures are not only celebrated, but translated to be creative economy industry.

Indonesia is the largest economy in South East Asia the 16th largest in the world with rich cultural diversity, as well as young and vibrant workforce. It has large consumer base with fast growing spending power. In the recent years, the country shows increase in infrastructure investment with aim to improve overall efficiency. Indonesia's economic growth is steady on average 5% within the last 4 years. Economist Intelligence Unit forecasts that Indonesia's economic growth will keep steady on 5.3 % average for the next 5 years.

A founding state and member of the ASEAN. ASEAN remains the cornerstone of Indonesia's foreign policy. With Indonesia, ASEAN will be robust and with ASEAN, Indonesia will progress. ASEAN holds a strategic role in maintaining regional security, stability and economic growth in the region. With such strategic role, Indonesia continue to underline the importance of ASEAN unity and centrality.

About the Speaker:
Ambassador Hakim currently is the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to the Swiss Confederation and accredited to the Principality of Liechtenstein.
She was formerly the Director General for Legal and International Treaties in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (2010-2014), and previously served as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to the Kingdom of Sweden and the Republic of Latvia (2006-2010). She is graduated from the Faculty of Law, University of Padjajaran in Indonesia. She received her LL.M. Degree in International Law from the University of Stockholm, Sweden.
