Alena Slovakova - Organized by the IBH (Internationale Bodensee Hochschule), this event brought us to the historic castle of Sigmaringen and to a monastery of the Benedictine order wonderfully located in the heart of the Danube Valley.

The excursion started by collecting international students from the universities which are joined around the Lake of Constance. Our first stop brought us to the charming castle Sigmaringen where we were expected by a friendly guide from Great Britain. Our guide took us on a journey through the history of the castle and showed us the most interesting chambers of the castle. We were able to see the extensive weapon collection containing weapons from the 14th century to the 20th century.

After digesting the new information we headed to Hochschule Albstadt-Sigmaringen where the lunch was served and we had time to find new friends from different universities and countries. It was very inspiring to share our experience and customs. We took a short walk around the Hochschule and enjoyed the view of Sigmaringen city.

Afterwards, we visited Beuron Monastery where a monk explained to us how the monastery was built with the help of a lot of local people and told us about a few parts of its interesting history. Inside of the church we could enjoy the atmosphere and watch the breath-taking frescos.

We spent the rest of our afternoon by walking in the Danube valley and exploring the beauties of the local countryside. Some of us were so excited that they even experienced swimming in the Danube. A path near to the Danube led us to Maurus Chapel where we ended our trip.

Since we enjoyed this wonderful trip we are now looking forward to upcoming excursions!
