Beschreibung

Digital media have not only changed our everyday lives, but also the production and dissemination of knowledge. One might imagine scientific laboratories full of technological devices and computers storing, transmitting, and processing data. However, the old humanities have as well opened their area to new media: scholars in literature, history, philosophy, and many other disciplines--once alone with their books in venerable libraries--now work together with programmers and designers to build platforms that breach the textual linearity of traditional papers. We will get to know the emerging field of Digital Humanities through exploring four exemplary concepts:

-- Scholarly Blogging (http://www.fsw.uzh.ch/foucaultblog)
-- Thick Mapping (http://thebook.hypercities.com)
-- Digital Collaboration (http://www.modesofexistence.org)
-- Distant Reading (http://litlab.stanford.edu)

Ziele

-- Introduction into Digital Humanities
-- Exploring usage of new media in culture studies
-- Discussing cutting-edge research in literature, history, and philosophy
