In the last few decades, Asian economies have been growing impressively. Most of the worldwide operating corporations are present and actively engaged in the region. Lead by China, Asia attracts most of the worldwide Foreign-Direct Investments. While the world economic growth rate is still flat, China achieved a 7.6% GDP growth in the first half of year 2013 with 89 Chinese companies being ranked in the Fortune Global 500. According to Chinese Ministry of Commerce, in the last 20 years, China has made the biggest utilization of foreign investment among all developing countries. Meanwhile, China continues to make more and more overseas investments. In 2012, China invested 12.6 billion US dollars in Europe, which is a 21% increase compared to the year 2011. All figures and facts indicate that it is becoming more and more popular to do business in China (and with the Chinese).

Prof. Tjitra, associate professor from the Zhejiang University, China, will share his views on Doing Business in China based on his research and consulting experiences. The speech will mainly cover three topics:

  • Quick snapshots of China, including China's economic growth in recent years and its influence in the world.
  • Opportunities and challenges for Chinese enterprises in going international as well as the successes and failures that China experienced in the transformation from low-cost imitation to high-tech innovation businesses.
  • The issue of how the awareness of cultural differences influences entrepreneurial success when doing business in China (and with the Chinese). This topic also includes the role of culture in management and behavior, history, issues in contemporary China, cross-cultural communication and leadership, and working with Chinese colleagues and business partners.

The guest lecturer will close with a Q&A session as well as an open discussion on the challenges and potentials of doing business in China.
