Anna Viebrock studied stage design with Karl Kneidl at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. The collaboration with Christoph Marthaler has taken her to numerous theatrical and opera houses such as the Theater Basel, the Volksbühne Berlin, the Schauspielhaus Hamburg, the Oper Frankfurt, the Opéra de Paris, the Teatro Real Madrid, the Salzburg and Bayreuth festivals, the Wiener Festwochen, the Festival d'Avignon and the Schauspielhaus Zürich, in whose management team she worked until the summer of 2004. Since 1994 she has been working with the directorial team Jossi Wieler / Sergio Morabito on opera productions for the Theater Basel, at the Salzburg Festival, the Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam and mainly in Stuttgart.

Anna Viebrock has been working as a director since 2002. For the Staatsoper Hannover she staged "iOPAL", a world premiere of Hans-Joachim Hespos. "Ariane et Barbe-bleu" at the Opéra Bastille in Paris and the world premiere "Fremd" at the Staatsoper Stuttgart. Other directing works in her own stage settings were "In Vain" and "Geschwister Tanner" at the Schauspielhaus Zurich.

Exhibitions of her stage design models have been shown in Rotterdam, Prague, Madrid, Brussels, Ghent, Avignon, Helsinki and Basel. 2017 the exhibition "The Boat is Leaking, The Captain Song." in the Fondazione Prada in Venice, with Alexander Kluge, Thomas Demand and the curator Udo Kittelmann followed.

She was awarded the "Stage Designer of the Year" and "Costume Designer of the Year" award a total of 16 times. The state of Hesse honored her with the Hesse Culture Prize in 1997, in 2004 she was awarded the Berlin Theater Prize and in 2013 the Hein-Heckroth-Prize. She received the Zurich Festival Prize in 2015. Anna Viebrock is a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
