The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods, also known as CISG or UN Sales Convention, was concluded in 1980. The UN Sales Convention is of significant importance to international trade. At present, 89 states have already ratified the Convention. Among them are most European countries and important trading partners of Liechtenstein. Liechtenstein has not yet joined the UN Sales Convention.

The UN Sales Convention applies to cross border sale of goods, if both contracting parties are established in a contracting state to the UN Sales Convention or if the legal system applicable to the contract is that of a contracting state. Are generally covered contracts between companies on purchase of goods of all kinds (with the exception of electrical energy, aircraft, ships and securities).

After a brief introduction, Mr. Patrick Ritter, Deputy Director at the Office for Foreign Affairs and Head of the Department for Economy and Development, will discuss international conventions and their importance for Liechtenstein as a business location. Subsequently, Prof. Dr. Petra Butler, LL.M Victoria University of Wellington, will talk on "The CISG - the Tool for the Successful Participation of Business in Global Trade". But, not only the provisions of the CISG and their interpretation, but also the application of the UN Sales Convention in international commercial arbitration will be discussed in more detail at the conference. In addition, current issues relating to supply chains, smart contracts and corporate governance will be discussed.

The subsequent podium discussion will offer participants an opportunity to address the speakers with practical questions.
