The development of blockchain and crypto currencies hold the potential to change the nature of investment and asset management in the financial sector as a whole. In addition, these technologies themselves represent a promising form of investment. With these developments, it is always important to keep up with the times so as not to run the risk of being surprised and overwhelmed by new, unknown developments.

The fact that Liechtenstein's government remains on the ravages of time is evident, as we think of the recently passed "Blockchain Act". But a lot is also happening in research at the University of Liechtenstein and in the private sector. A great success for the local crypto industry will be celebrated at the University of Liechtenstein on Tuesday, 26 November 2019, because for the first time ever, the Swiss government is awarding a research grant for an in-depth discussion on a crypto fund.

The award, endowed with CHF 360,000, is a multi-year grant to the Asset Management Boutique Incrementum AG which is located in Schaan and the Institute for Finance of the University of Liechtenstein, which is clearly linked to the goal of researching the opportunities and risks of blockchain technology. The focus is on the "Digital & Physical Gold Fund", a modern fund product that combines physical gold with the strongest coins from the crypto world.

The University of Liechtenstein has been active for several years in the research of blockchain technology and crypto currencies and has earned a reputation as a neutral and critical voice. Ass.-Prof. Dr. Martin Angerer, Prof. Dr. Michael Hanke and Ass.-Prof. Dr. Lars Kaiser will spearhead proprietary research for Incrementum AG on the topic of cryptocurrency asset management including data driven investment strategies and risk management. This research will assist Incrementum in creating a cryptocurrency fund that is robust to quickly changing market conditions and built for strong risk-adjusted performance over the long-term.

In the first part of the event, an introductory keynote lecture will be delivered. Afterwards, Ass.-Prof. Dr. Martin Angerer from the University of Liechtenstein will report first-hand details on how the project came about. He will also show what the grant means for academic research in Liechtenstein and beyond. Finally, he will discuss where the focus of the research work will be and how the plan for the next year is shaped. The last speaker will be Mr. Mark Valek from Incrementum AG. He will explain details of the fund and its strategy and speak about the grant's significance.
