«This elective course addresses the most sustainable concept of our economic activity: the non-production of new things. It focuses on the urgency and rediscovery of a culture of care, repair, reparability and upcycling to critically question the way we design, build and use our constructed environment.»
Upcycling, D. Stockhammer

Over the course of one semester, Master’s students at the Liechtenstein School of Architecture dedicated themselves to working with a single defective object. Each student carefully analyzed, documented, and tested the potential of their chosen item — not just to be repaired, but to be meaningfully transformed. Guided by both theory and hands-on experimentation, the students developed individual repair concepts, aiming for technically and/or aesthetically improved outcomes. They explored strategies of care, repair, and upcycling, engaging with contemporary methods of restoration and conservation. This exhibition presents the results of their work: each student’s restored object is displayed alongside a detailed poster that traces its journey—from initial defect, through analysis and design, to the final repair solution. Together, these works reflect a deep engagement with sustainability, craftsmanship, and the creative potential to prolong the life of objects.
