Graduation Ceremony with Awards – March 2023

At the University of Liechtenstein's graduation ceremony on Friday, March 24, 2023, five doctoral degrees were conferred and 45 graduates of the University of Liechtenstein were presented with their diplomas. In addition, awards for exceptional performance were presented to six diploma students.

Rector Markus Jäger and the respective directors of studies conferred the academic degrees in the fields of architecture and economics on the graduates.

 
In his welcoming speech, Rector Markus Jäger emphasized: "With your successful graduation, you have proven that you can adapt to completely unexpected challenges and deliver the best performance. With your resilience, you have the best prerequisites to make your way in our fast-moving world, regardless of whether you will work in academia or in a company in the future."


Dr. Verena Konrad, University Councillor and Director of the Vorarlberg Architecture Institute vai, stated in her ceremonial address, "We have accompanied you as a university community and bear the hope that you have acquired another skill in addition to the knowledge you have acquired here. Acquiring knowledge is one thing. Equally important in the future will be how you use that knowledge and what you use your skills to do."

Exceptional Achievements 

Six graduates were honored for their exceptional achievements with awards from Liechtenstein companies and associations.

Prizes for Economics

As in previous years, the Foundation "Promotion of Young Technical Professionals" of Hilti AG awarded prizes to the most innovative diploma theses from the bachelor's and master's degree programs in economics. The award in the bachelor's degree program in business administration was presented to Julia Bitschi. The prize in the Master's degree program went to Megha Shrestha (Business Information Systems degree program).

The Liechtenstein Bankers Association (LBV) traditionally awards the best average of all modules from the Master's program in Finance. The award was presented to Edoardo Migliardi.
In addition, the LBV awards a prize for an outstanding scientific and practically relevant thesis. This award in the master's program went to Caroline White.

Awards in the Field of Architecture

The LIA, the Liechtenstein Association of Engineers and Architects, traditionally honors the best graduates of the Bachelor's and Master's degree programs in architecture. The award in the bachelor's program went to David Keller, and the award in the master's program went to Noëlle Caja Bottoni.

Doctoral Degrees in the Field of Economics and in the Field of Architecture

At this year's graduation ceremony, four students from the Department of Economics and one student from the Department of Architecture were awarded doctoral degrees:


Kilian Klösel, Wolfgang Schwarzmann, Elke Weihard and Matthias Herrmann-Romero (Yulia Litvinova is missing on the picture)

Ph.D. degrees in the Field of Economics:

Matthias Herrmann-Romero received the doctorate with the distinction "summa cum laude" for his dissertation "Information Dissemination in Financial Markets - Three Experimental Studies", his supervisor was Assoz. Prof. Dr. Martin Angerer.

Kilian Klösel received his doctorate with the distinction "summa cum laude" for his dissertation "Vision, Goal Setting und Führungsverhalten", his supervisor was Prof. em. Dr. Urs Baldegger.

Yulia Litvinova was awarded a doctorate with the distinction "magna cum laude" for her dissertation "The Role of Self and Place in the Digital World: Challenges for Hybrid Work and Virtual Collaboration"; her advisor was Prof. Dr. Jan vom Brocke.

Elke Weihard received a doctorate for her dissertation "Inner-City Retailing in Times of eCommerce - Future through Online Marketplaces," her advisor was PD Dr. habil. Christian Marxt, ETH Zurich. 

Ph.D. degree in the Field of Architecture:

At this year's graduation ceremony, a student of the Department of Architecture and Spatial Planning was awarded a doctorate:

Wolfgang Schwarzmann obtained the doctorate with the predicate "magna cum laude" for his dissertation "Digital transformation and crafts: How is the profession of the carpenter changing due to modern joinery robots?", his supervisor was Prof. Dipl. Arch. ETH Urs Meister.
