The University of Liechtenstein opens its doors

On 19 and 20 June 2013, the Institute of Architecture and Planning will invite interested members of the public to attend various events to be held on the campus of the University of Liechtenstein: the programme includes an exhibition, a book launch, final presentations and a lecture on architecture.

19 June: ateliermob lecture

On Wednesday, 19 June 2013, the university is hosting a team from ateliermob, the Portuguese architecture firm. Their lecture “Working with the 99%” will start at 6 p.m. In it, they will present their work as a multidisciplinary platform whose projects, ideas and research are developed within the realms of architecture, design and urbanism. They are particularly interested in seemingly banal tasks, and their quest for architectural projects on behalf of clients without any financial means is a driving force behind their work.

Since 2005, ateliermob has worked on a variety of projects around the world and received numerous award nominations, such as for the Tagus River Banks Design Competition.  In 2007, they were voted among the top 10 of up-and-coming Portuguese architecture firms by “Newitalianblood”.

20 June: vernissage and book launch

In 2013, the Institute of Architecture and Planning is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Over the course of all these years, the work of its lecturers, staff members and students has been characterized by curiosity, resilience and courage. To mark the anniversary, postcards have been sent in the past few weeks to alumni, former staff members and friends of the institute around the world in order to collect as broad a range of architectural visions as possible.

The individual results will be presented in a vernissage on Thursday, 20 June 2013, from 6 p.m. The exhibition “If architecture ...” in the foyer of the University of Liechtenstein will be open to interested members of the public until 26 July. A selection from the overwhelming number of contributions has been collected in a book, which will be presented during the vernissage.

19 and 20 June: final architectural presentations

Over the course of a semester, architecture students have engaged with various architectural challenges during their work in the Bachelor’s and Master’s design studios. On 19 and 20 June, they will expose themselves and their designs to the critique of lecturers and external experts. The presentations are accessible to interested members of the public, and on both days will be held from 9.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. in the foyer, studio and auditorium of the University of Liechtenstein.

In addition, the public final presentation of the Denise Ospelt studio will take place as an all-day event on 19 June at Schloss Werdenberg.
