Focus on alternative investments: On 6 November 2012, the Propter Homines Chair of Banking and Securities Law of the Institute for Financial Services will hold the 7th Liechtenstein Funds Forum at the University of Liechtenstein.

At the 7th Liechtenstein Funds Forum, guest experts and experts from the University of Liechtenstein will examine the legal aspects of alternative investments. Pension funds, banks and insurance companies are controlled institutional investors, whose regulation also sets standards and determines requirements for managers of alternative investment funds (AIFs). Those who do not understand these requirements cannot provide the regulated industry with expert services. Examining the legal aspects of institutional AIF investors is no simple matter, as the directive on pension funds, the Capital Requirements Directive (CRD) IV and the Solvency II Directive also set standards that are applicable all over Europe.

Leading expert in financial services law
On Tuesday, 6 November 2012, from 5 p.m., Dr. Benedikt Weiser, LL. M. (Eur.), a renowned expert in the field of institutional investments, will deliver a speech at the Liechtenstein Funds Forum. Dr. Benedikt Weiser, who is a partner at Dechert LLP in Frankfurt am Main, one of the leading law firms specialized in financial services law, will explore the framework conditions related to insurance law in a speech entitled “Challenges of the directives on pension funds and Solvency II regarding the structuring of AIF investments”. Subsequently, Professor Dirk A. Zetzsche, LL. M. (Toronto), who holds the Propter Homines Chair of Banking and Securities Law at the University of Liechtenstein, will illustrate the effects the CRD IV exerts on AIF investments.

Practical and up to date
The forum is intended for depositaries, promoters, fund managers and financial intermediaries from the Swiss, Austrian and German  financial centres, as well as Financial Market Authority staff. Interested researchers and students are also welcome. A subsequent discussion and drinks reception will provide an opportunity for participants to exchange ideas.
