Advent thank you

The students from 30 countries living in the Vaduz student dormitory would like to say thank you to the neighbourhood with mulled wine and home-made cookies, and celebrate the beginning of the Advent season with you in front of the student dormitory on 2 December 2011.

The students from 30 countries living in the Vaduz student dormitory would like to say thank you to the neighbourhood with mulled wine and home-made cookies, and celebrate the beginning of the Advent season with you in front of the student dormitory on 2 December 2011.

The aim of this evening with cookies and mulled wine is for the students of the multicultural student dormitory to get to know their neighbours better. But the residents from 30 countries would also like to offer their neighbours and all interested parties in Liechtenstein insight into their Christmas traditions. The kitchens on all the student dormitory’s floors are being turned into Christmas cookies factories in order to create a wide range of cookies to accompany the punch and mulled wine. In the creative workshop, architecture students from Spain and Finland designed a Christmas card and a cup for the mulled-wine event, which are now being distributed in the neighbourhood. They act as invitations to the neighbourhood celebration, which will take place in front of the student dormitory, and can be brought along to the convivial evening on Friday, 2 December, from 6.30 p.m.

Musical accompaniment from Madeira
On their journey through the region, the group Estudiantina de Madeira from Portugal will visit the student dormitory on 2 December 2011, to introduce the locals to the musical tradition from their home country. Estudiantinas are music groups formed exclusively by men in elegant garments, who perform romantic and cheerful native songs, accompanied by string instruments such as guitars and mandolins. In Spain, Portugal and Latin America, these popular music groups can often be found at cultural events.

Musical entertainment by the group Estudiantina de Madeira will accompany the student dormitory’s mulled-wine evening for the neighbours in Vaduz.

Cultural diversity in the midst of Liechtenstein
The University of Liechtenstein’s student dormitory offers 72 places for students from abroad or visiting students from around the world. Currently, they are all occupied by people from 30 nations, including Spain, Japan, Indonesia, Hungary, Iran, Canada, South Korea, Latvia and Turkey. Many of the visiting students come to Liechtenstein for one or two semesters from partner universities such as Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie in São Paulo or NTNU Trondheim in Norway. Due to this mix of diverse cultures, life at the student dormitory is rich in new experiences. Regular intercultural events also ensure that local students are included.
