Banking Game 2010 - Potsdam

Students of the graduate program “Banking and Financial Management” of Hochschule Liechtenstein have once again attended the module Banking Game.

Every year the first-semester students either visit the HSBC headquarter in London or the University of Potsdam. In Potsdam the seminar was organised and run in cooperation with the Chair in Financing and Banking of Prof. Hummel. The participants had the task to run a fictitious universal bank across 5 periods and take decisions on the strategy, interest spreads, investment management and marketing in order to increase the share price across all periods. This visit of Liechtenstein students at the University of Potsdam has a long ongoing history and is not only a very exciting trip, but in addition enables the students of both universities to share their academic knowledge and experience.

The student group was also invited by the Federal Ministry of Finance in Berlin where an interesting discussion emerged around the topic “Information Exchange between Germany and Liechtenstein”. Afterwards, the students visited the Landesbank Berlin where the group was shown around the trading floor and attended a presentation on portfolio management. The third company visit took the group to the BVI (Bundesverband Investment und Asset Management e.V.) and had the chance to discuss current trends and market outlooks of the German mutual fund industry.
