Exceptional creative conditions: 2013 Compact Projects

This year, the winter semester at the University of Liechtenstein will once again commence with the Compact Projects, which bring internationally renowned course instructors from the worlds of art and culture, design and media to Liechtenstein. An open invitation is extended to anyone interested in attending the presentation of the results on 14 September.

From 9 to 14 September 2013, students have the opportunity of gaining interdisciplinary experience in the specialist areas of architecture and business economics.

This year’s Compact Project Week is entitled “together – allmeind” and focuses on skills that together with in-depth expertise are becoming ever more important for the students. Drawing on Richard Sennett’s book Together, the thematic focus is on responsibility to others.

The project outcomes in the form of dance, theatre, exhibitions and installations can be viewed by interested members of the public on the campus of the University of Liechtenstein.

Daily programme slot

Since 2007, the University of Liechtenstein has been inviting big names to lead the workshops of the Compact Projects. For this reason, this year will see the first public presentations by the course instructors, which will be hosted by the all-rounder Sebastian Frommelt from Liechtenstein.

In programme slots each lasting from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., the audience at the open-air stage can expect a sound installation with Balthasar Streiff and Jean Jacques Tata on Wednesday, 11 September; a concert with Peter Weber, Anton Bruhin and Marco Schädler on Thursday, 12 September; and slam, poetry and “Textbox” with Bas Böttcher and students on Friday, 13 September.

Art as an elementary experience

Social and personal skills are key attributes that always come to the fore when belts are tightened and things get rough in the economy. This is when respect and responsibility are required. It is easy to discuss business ethics, but true education is revealed in its implementation and application.

The question is what special knowledge and skills are necessary to prepare students for the world of business. The ability to quickly and competently familiarize oneself with new specialist areas is just as important as team skills and the ability to cooperate and communicate.

This is what the Compact Projects focus on, with students working together in unfamiliar specialist areas in order to design, develop and present projects as a collaboratively created product.
