On Friday, 26 April 2013, as part of an excursion arranged for the Bachelor’s degree programme in Business Administration in the 2013 summer semester, a group of interested students visited the corrugated board factory owned by Rondo Ganahl AG in Frastanz.

Managing Director Mag. Hubert Marte provided fascinating insights into this sector and its particular aspects. It very soon became apparent to the listeners that the production of corrugated board is a highly complex process, and that common planning and forecasting procedures are insufficient tools for optimising results. Managing Director Mag. Hubert Marte made clear that, to him, the deciding factor was the human one.

During a tour of the entire production facility, the students were able to experience up close how used paper is turned into new paper, and how this is then processed into corrugated board. In this way, Rondo creates the foundation for closed loop packaging, which has definite benefits over reusable packaging.

In the generous opportunities provided for discussion, the students were not only able to pose many questions but also got to experience in person a manager who is dedicated and who identifies 100% with the product.

Student feedback

Matthias Mathauer, 2nd semester
“Time pressure, complex production processes and perfectly attuned logistics motivate the packaging manufacturer Rondo to perform at their best each and every day. We were able to draw connections between our previous theoretical learning and the insights we were given today, and also to broaden our general perspective. After all, closed loop packaging is bound to play an important role in future debates on environmental protection. Rondo showed what it is made of – quite literally, in fact – and will continue to get ever closer to making the perfect corrugation with the longest machine in Vorarlberg.”

Christian Diem, 4th semester

“The visit to Rondo Ganahl provided me with interesting and useful insights into the production process at an industrial company. In addition, I was able to gain an impression of the extreme level of complexity such a business is faced with, and how one can overcome it. Moreover, the lively discussion with Mag. Marte provided us with the opportunity to experience the views of the management regarding such topics as recruiting, management and budget planning. Finally, I would say that anyone who doesn’t interact with people in the upper managerial echelons on a daily basis is definitely missing out on a lot!”

Michael Weiser
“I have received nothing but great feedback from all the participants in yesterday’s excursion to Rondo! It was particularly ideal thanks to the manageable size of the group.”

Philipp Mörk, 2nd semester

“Along with an impressive tour of the entire production facilities at Rondo Ganahl AG, we spoke with Managing Director Hubert Marte about the challenges of sustainable corporate governance. As it is employees in particular who guarantee the ability to compete, it was interesting to learn how efficiency can be increased through motivating employees.”

Florian Büchel, 2nd semester

“The excursion to Rondo Ganahl AG in Frastanz was very interesting and impressive. I especially enjoyed the discussion with Managing Director Hubert Marte. It gave me first-hand insights into, and information regarding, the challenges faced by a managing director. Thank you for the great organization and this exciting morning.”
