The aim of the practical project of the University of Liechtenstein and the Institute of Social Services as part of the Master's Program „Business Process Management“ was the analysis, presentation and improvement of business processes in selected areas of the company.

During this project, a further challenge for the 20 students was the orientation in the mostly unknown non-profit sector of psychosocial services. The Institute for Social Services (IfS) Vorarlberg is a service company, which offers counseling and support to people in psychological and social emergencies and crises. The comprehensive range is addressed to children, adolescents, adults, older people, disabled people, couples and families and includes help for many situations.

In a first interim presentation in December 2010, the students had presented various business processes and possibilities for improvement. In a subsequent joint discussion with students and employees of the Institute of Social Services, the proposals were evaluated and the seven most important were identified for a further deepening elaboration. At the end of January, the final results were presented to the IfS in a final presentation. Suggestions for improvement in this portfolio range from the creation of an Intranet reference model to the exemplary presentation of application- and test cases for the structured self-development.
The IfS was enthusiastic about the collaboration with the students and the results, as they point out that the social and the business field can work together harmoniously and achieve effective results.

The project with the IfS is a good example of how local companies in a wide range of industries can work together successfully with the University of Liechtenstein. Moreover, the project shows how not only companies from industry and economy can benefit from modern management concepts.
