The Hilti Fellows of the 2011 summer semester recently presented their final expositions at the University of Liechtenstein. The Hilti Fellowship Programme was set up by Hilti AG and the Institute of Information Systems. It enables motivated students at the University of Liechtenstein to combine practical experience with a degree programme.

The Hilti Fellowship Programme is unique to Europe. It combines a five-month internship at the international industrial concern Hilti AG with academic studies at the University of Liechtenstein. The programme is part of the Master’s degree programme in Business Process Management and was developed by Hilti AG in conjunction with Professor Jan vom Brocke at the University of Liechtenstein.

The extremely accomplished Master’s students come to Liechtenstein from all over the world. They are primarily recruited from the international research network of the Institute of Information Systems. “This is an excellent opportunity to bring top talent into the country and link it with the regional economy,” says Professor vom Brocke regarding the background of the initiative. “Some people who were recruited through the programme are already working in high-level positions here in Liechtenstein.”

For the students, participation in the programme is both an honour and a challenge. They undergo a competitive international selection process in which their academic and career profiles are assessed. After being selected, they work at the company for one semester as part of an international project team and at the same time attend lectures intrinsic to the Master’s degree programme in Business Process Management at the Institute of Information Systems.

At the University of Liechtenstein the seventh generation of Hilti Fellows recently presented their final expositions to the Management of Hilti as well as the scientists from the Institute of Information Systems. The Fellows had to plan the last five months very thoroughly. Every Monday to Wednesday, they were present at Hilti for their internship, while Thursday to Saturday was spent attending lectures at the university. Evenings were reserved for term papers and for making preparations for upcoming tests.
