Over 100 diplomats accredited in Liechtenstein attended the Government‘s Embassy Day on Wednesday, 15 June 2011. Head of Government, Klaus Tschütscher, and Foreign Minister, Aurelia Frick, welcomed diplomatic representatives from almost 70 countries to the event held on the University campus in Vaduz. “The only constant in the future is change. Our response to this challenge is our Agenda 2020,” said Government head Tschütscher. In his opening address, the Head of Government made clear that Liechtenstein was also undergoing a long-term and comprehensive transformation process. The aims of the Agenda 2020 were based on solid and proven values such as autonomy, security and humanity.

Government minister Aurelia Frick went on to emphasise that Liechtenstein is a reliable, cooperative and committed member of the international community. “We are specifically committed to areas where we can make a meaningful contribution, such as the International Criminal Court or activities in international humanitarian cooperation and development, now with a particular interest in the states of North Africa who are currently in the midst of historical upheaval,” said Foreign Minister Frick.

Prof. Dr. Stefan Güldenberg, Chair in International Management at the University of Liechtenstein, described in his role as guest speaker why knowledge and sustainability will be the key factors for innovation in management of the 21st century. “Management has to re-invent itself and has to provide conditions, which will attract and motivate talents in the area of 'knowledge work'."

As ‘host’, Rector Klaus Näscher was delighted to have the opportunity to display the academic standards of the University of Liechtenstein to an international audience and to allow students direct contact with the guests. “Personal contacts with diplomats often form the basis for future partnering activities with other universities across the world and also enhance our relations in the internationalisation process.”

Information Day has taken place regularly since 2001 and offers participants the opportunity to gain expert and first hand information on a wide range of Liechtenstein subject areas and to make and reinforce diplomatic ties. Many of the attendees were accredited in Liechtenstein in the past year.
