Student from the University of Liechtenstein wins Switzerland-wide Avaloq Group competition

Through the competition “Avaloq IT Student of the Year” the Avaloq Group, together with Universum, honours especially committed students for the most creative solution to an IT challenge. The prize for 2013 – a round-the-world ticket – was won by Claudio Ceccotti, a student on the Master’s degree programme in IT and Business Process Management at the University of Liechtenstein.

With the student competition “IT Student of the Year”, Avaloq, the Switzerland-based provider of comprehensive banking solutions, has for the second time demonstrated its commitment to nurturing the IT talents of the future. The competition was run in conjunction with Universum, one of the leading companies worldwide for employer branding. The idea is to reward creative students with extraordinary prizes and to give them the opportunity to establish valuable contacts for their future careers.

Best business game idea in Switzerland

This year, students were asked to submit an innovative idea for an ingenious new board, card or computer game combining the three essential components of banking, IT and internationality. With his idea of a simulation-based business game, Claudio Ceccotti, a Master’s student and participant in the BPM Career Programme of the University of Liechtenstein, succeeded against fellow competitors from across the whole of Switzerland.

In his unconventional game, each player represents a bank that is in global competition with other banks and equipped with the corresponding starting capital and a core banking system. The aim of the game is to increase client loyalty. By means of simulation, players are confronted with randomly generated situations such as individual client requirements or a new corporate strategy. To implement a solution, players can choose from a number of different modules, which they can either buy or program themselves. Client loyalty rises or falls depending on the decision taken. The bank with the highest level of client loyalty at the end of the game wins.

Round-the-world trip and networking opportunities

The awards ceremony was held at the Letzigrund stadium in Zurich this year and gave the students the unique opportunity to personally get to know representatives of renowned companies from a range of sectors. “I would definitely recommend the competition to others,” says Claudio Ceccotti about the opportunity it provides. “The awards ceremony in Zurich was a fantastic event with interesting guests. And of course the prize could not be better: a round-the-world ticket with CHF 1,000.00 spending money!”

BPM Career Programme of the University of Liechtenstein

Following his school-leaving examinations, Claudio Ceccotti played professional basketball in Germany parallel to completing a diploma in Business Administration. He began the Master’s degree programme in IT and Business Process Management at the University of Liechtenstein last autumn. Within the scope of the BPM Career Programme, he is also gaining practical experience as an employee of the LGT Bank in Liechtenstein and thereby deepening his knowledge of business processes and how they are created.
