At its meeting on 6 November 2013, the Landtag of the Principality of Liechtenstein decided by just 13 votes to 12 to accept the government report and motion to grant a state contribution to the University of Liechtenstein.

The government’s contribution for the areas of teaching and research (base contribution) as well as rents, operating costs and maintenance will thus amount to CHF 13.8 million for the years 2014, 2015 and 2016. CHF 1 million has been allocated to the research promotion fund.

Set against a background of stringent economy measures, the stagnant state contributions discussed provide a certain level of security in terms of forward planning, but will also force the University of Liechtenstein to manage its resources extremely carefully with regard to budgeting and expenditure.
