New approaches for a sustainable future

The third international LISDAR Liechtenstein Congress centres on the topic of sustainability. Experts from the areas of finance, real estate, construction, design and IT will be focusing on research findings and practical solutions regarding sustainable development and responsible investing. The congress will be held at the University of Liechtenstein from 2 to 4 May.

The third international LISDAR Liechtenstein Congress centres on the topic of sustainability. Experts from the areas of finance, real estate, construction, design and IT will be focusing on research findings and practical solutions regarding sustainable development and responsible investing. The congress will be held at the University of Liechtenstein from 2 to 4 May.

The Liechtenstein Congress on Sustainable Development and Responsible Investing is organized by the University of Liechtenstein in cooperation with the country’s government. Professor Peter Droege from the Institute of Architecture and Planning at the University of Liechtenstein is the initiator and in charge of the event. The first day will focus on the role of foundations in the context of the institutional financial system. Responsible investing possibilities will be examined. The second day will address the topic of renewable cities, while responsible information systems will be presented on the third day.

Day 1
The following speakers will be speaking on the topic “Responsible investing for foundations, institutions and individuals”: Lord Antony Giddens, professor at the London School of Economics, Christa Velasquez, Senior Fellow at Harvard University , and John Byrne, Nobel Peace Prize laureate and professor at the University of Delaware . They will be addressing topics such as “Global outlook 2020–2040 and the politics of climate change ” (Giddens), the evolution of foundations and the “Potential and evolution of foundations: rise of the ethical financial institution ” (Velasquez), as well as “Climate-stable financial instruments for sustainable development ” (Byrne).

Day 2
“Renewable city: architecture, property and infrastructure” – this is the topic for the second day of the LISDAR Congress in Vaduz. The starting point is the fact that the architecture of our cities and regions faces a great transformation, worldwide: the search for sustainable buildings and investments – projects not dependent on coal and nuclear power, that conserve water and resources, and take account of local history, culture and social aspirations. Speakers include Stefan Behnisch, an internationally active architect, Tony Ciochetti, Director at MIT in Boston, and Roger Baumann, Head of Business Development & Sustainability at Credit Suisse AG. They will be discussing the topics “Responsible architecture as a corporate strategy” (Behnisch) and “Sustainable property and green real estate in practice – cross-Atlantic perspectives” (Ciochetti and Baumann).

Day 3
The third day of the congress will focus on “Renewable energy – new business strategies for veteran entrepreneurs” . Ecopreneurial principles and the pervasive application of green IT solutions support private and public organizational strategies in the global quest for competitiveness. Speakers on this topic include Matthias W. Send, chairman of the management board of NATURpur Institut für Klima- und Umweltschutz GmbH, Darmstadt, Reinhard Backhausen, director of Backhausen interior textiles GmbH, and Dennis Pamlin, director of the UN Carbon Lead project. They will be exploring the topics “Renewable energy – new business strategies for veteran entrepreneurs” (Send), “Sustainability through ‘returnity’” (Backhausen) and “Green business and global ICT: understanding the state of the world”  (Pamlin).
