Together with the Literaturhaus, the University of Liechtenstein is hosting a poetry slam on Wednesday, 6 March 2013, at 6 p.m. The line-up promises a top-class festival of the spoken word: enchanting and engaging poetry – performed by the elite of the European slam scene.

You should not bore!

Since Marc Kelly Smith organized the first poetry slam in Chicago in 1986, the idea of this modern poetry contest has expanded over the entire globe.

The rules are simple, and there is no limit to participants’ imagination: the texts have to be written by the performers themselves and recited freely without props or gimmicks.

However, the slam poets’ first rule is that the audience shouldn’t get bored. And indeed, a slam is no restrained recital, but a linguistic explosion that shows how varied the means of expression of a human voice can be. The audience takes on the role of the jury.

A gathering of poets from Switzerland, Germany and – Liechtenstein
The elite of the European slam scene will be performing at the first poetry slam in the studio of the University of Liechtenstein.

With Renato Kaiser from Fribourg, Kilian Ziegler from Olten and Hazel Brugger from Zurich, poets familiar from Swiss TV and radio will be competing on stage. Germany will be represented by Ken Yamamoto from Berlin and Thomas Spitzer from Cologne.

In addition, three students from the University of Liechtenstein will also be participating in the contest. Lars Ruppel from Marburg, one of Germany’s most well-known slammers, will preside over proceedings.

The Poetry Slam Liechtenstein was made possible through the Literaturhaus Liechtenstein and the Art Huus Vaduz.
